Square Circle was a 2.5 tonne ‘experiment’ in cast concrete, made in a 22,000ft warehouse in Peckham that became ‘Area10′ – an international art space that attracted and produced artists from across the globe.
Square Circle was constructed using a template made with left over bits of wood. It was a bit of a monument, an experiment to see whether it was possible to cast 2 tonnes of concrete – and make it stand on end. The final piece stood 8ft tall, 4 wide and 2 deep, and was cemented into foundations – secure enough to sit in and scramble on (with the help of Whittons’ stomping new £50K fork lift).
We took over the building when the company moved next door, and generated an the experimental platform for visual and live arts.
